About

Louise Sliney Architects (MRIAI) was established in Cork in 2009. We specialise in sustainable housing from one-off developments to extensions and renovations with a 100% success rate for planning permission applications. Based near Kinsale we operate throughout Cork city and Cork County.

Born and raised in Cork, I returned to live in Cork city in 2003 . Following my 1999 graduation from UCD, the first decade of my  architectural career was spent working for larger practices in Dublin and Cork including RKD Architects, Wain Morehead Architects and Duff Tissdall Architects. During this time I worked on a variety of projects for both the public and private sector – from one-off housing to community complexes, educational facilities, crèches and third level institutions.

In 2009 after renovating and extending my own home in the Cork countryside, I took the plunge and set up my architectural practice. During this time I built strong relationships with a network of reliable collaborators throughout Cork. Building a house means bringing together a team of people. I work with quantity surveyors, planners, engineers and building contractors who I know are reliable and can meet my high standards. My clients place a lot of trust in me so I make sure to only work with experts who have earned my trust.

After a decade of developing my  architectural practice I love walking on to a site and knowing the names of everyone working there. Even better is bumping into a former client years later and hearing how much they love living in their home. And while the business has grown and I’m no longer the only employee, my focus on customer service and relationships remain integral values of Louise Sliney Architects (MRIAI).

For all architects, the importance of continuous professional development cannot be overstated.  I have followed my interests in low energy and sustainable design to learn new technologies and am a qualified Passive House Designer and Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB) . We use DEAP and PHPP to help design our buildings

Louise is a Registered Architect under the Building Control Act of 2007 and is a member of the RIAI since 2004 and is professionally indemnified by Marsh Ireland. RIAI Membership Number 09001. Louise served as Chairperson of the Cork based RIAI Southern Region committee from 2014 to 2017. The recent economic and social changes have resulted in a young, and young-at-heart, diverse group of architects working in the area. Regular events are well attended. These include at least 6 lectures from national and international speakers, an annual tour of recent and historic structures in the far-flung corners of the region . Louise also co-ordinates the Small Practice Forum which meets on a monthly basis. Orientated towards Principals of Small Architecture Practices and Sole Practitioner Architects, it is essentially a forum to discuss topical architectural practice issues, problems and work collaboratively with other local Cork City and Cork County based architects to assist one-another in our day to day work.

For those not lucky enough to have a home, I participate in the Simon Communities Open Door partnership each year.

Please get in touch if you have a project you would like to discuss with us.
